VISION IS PRICELESS – 1099 OPTOMETRIST
Job Summary
Vision Is Priceless is a nonprofit 501c3 organization that was founded in 1996 to fulfill the need
in our community for vision screenings and to provide access to free vision care—including eye
exams, prescription glasses, and specialty care—for the uninsured and underserved. Through
our Sight in Schools program, we are working to help students in Northeast Florida reach their
academic potential and address health disparities in our community. The role of the
optometrist is to provide dilated eye exams for students using a mobile eye lane. The doctor
will also supervise student frame selection.
The optometrist job is a 1099-contract that provides exams from August through
May/June. The doctor will work up to 4 days per week, Monday – Friday, 9:30 am –
2pm. The Sight in Schools program follows the Duval County School calendar.
The position does not receive benefits however, exams will not be administered during
school holidays and breaks.
The annual rate of pay is at a minimum $50,000 and a maximum of $100,000. The rate
of pay is in alignment with number of exams performed during the school year. At a
minimum, 1,000 student exams are to be provided and a maximum of 2,000.
The optometrist must be willing to travel at their own expense to school locations
throughout Duval, Clay, and Nassau County.
Provider is required to hold their own professional liability insurance and be licensed in
the State of Florida.
Key Position Responsibilities
Provide primary vision evaluations: check VA’s, assess binocular vision, perform a full
refraction, and prescribe appropriate correction, and assess ocular health.
Prescribe vision devices, tests patient on all applicable equipment to determine the
most suitable for his/her condition and instruct patient in the proper use of it.
Confirm patient diagnosis is properly documented according to Vision Is Priceless
policies.
Qualifications
Successful track record of working with children.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Bi-lingual with English and Spanish or other language a plus.
